On February 18, the Greater Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber of Commerce named S.G. Cunningham Limited “Business of the Year (11 – 50 Employees)”. Nine businesses were nominated and SGC was honoured just to be among them. In her acceptance speech, President and CEO Georgia Cunningham Bolger thanked her father, SGC founder George Cunningham, for his entrepreneurial spirit and acknowledged the foundation for his success: valuing employees, quality work, outstanding service, integrity, good partnerships with trades, gratitude and giving back to the community. She emphasized that success is not an entitlement but something that must be earned every day.

SGC was also nominated for a Health & Wellness in the Workplace Award and delighted to be among that group of nominees which included the Region of Waterloo and Waterloo Regional Police Services. The Health & Wellness Award was won by Libro Credit Union.

Additionally, SGC sponsored the “Small Business of the Year Award (1 – 10 Employees)” and SGC Senior VP John Deans presented this award to the owner of Gem Spa.

Celebrating 40 Years of Service with Heart!

This year marks SGC’s 40th anniversary and the company has set a goal to raise at least $40,000 for St. Mary’s Regional Cardiac Care Centre to help bring one more piece of cardiac care to Kitchener-Waterloo – a Heart Rhythm Program. This program will allow doctors to diagnose and treat electrical issues related to the heart and will eliminate the need for patients to travel outside the region for this care, reducing the stress and anxiety this has on families. SGC hopes to far surpass its goal by the end of 2016. A first-ever SGC charity golf tournament is planned for July 28 and all proceeds will go to St. Mary’s.

SGC receives distinguished Health & Safety Award

For the eighth consecutive year, S.G. Cunningham has received a “Distinguished Achievement in Health and Safety” Award by the Ontario General Contractors Association. SGC is a member of the Grand Valley Construction Association – WSIB Safety Group Program which helps members stay current with safety legislation and best practices for ensuring construction safety.

 Encouraging eco-friendly practices

SGC also encourages organizations to use green building strategies that have a positive impact on our community. A focus on eco-friendly building can help reduce costs over time, improve health and protect the environment.

From strategic site selection and innovative design to preserving older building structures, to the use of sustainable and recycled materials, we can help you find ways to make a difference during the construction process and for long-term environmental impact.
